POSITION OVERVIEW:


The Youth Program Coordinator will support the Corps Officers in the daily management and execution of extensive youth initiatives for the Roseville Corps.

This role involves providing direction for youth engagement and outreach activities, which includes planning, resource allocation, volunteer training, and adherence to The Salvation Army's program standards.

The Youth Program Coordinator will collaborate with the Corps Officers to create outreach strategies aimed at attracting new participants from the community, including those involved in the After School Program.

Additionally, this position entails overseeing the coordination, execution, and administration of the Tutoring and Mentoring After School Program. Key responsibilities include program design and oversight, budget management, participation in staff training, and external partnerships.

The coordinator will ensure a safe, supportive, and well-supervised after-school environment, acting as a liaison with parents, volunteers, and donors to positively represent the site and its programs.

This role also requires the development of an engaging learning atmosphere, the establishment of interest areas, and the preparation of necessary materials and supplies.

Furthermore, the Youth Program Coordinator is tasked with collecting program data and generating reports as needed.

The ability to establish authority through effective leadership, communication, and, most importantly, patience is essential for providing participants with the stability and nurturing environment they require to thrive.

The Youth Program Coordinator is directly accountable for fostering a positive and enjoyable atmosphere, enhancing membership, and representing The Salvation Army Roseville Corps within the community, while also participating in on-site and organizational committees as required.

This position operates within the ministry team of the Corps.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Act as the primary contact for parents interested in enrolling their children in youth programs.

Design lesson plans, instruct, and lead Sunday school sessions utilizing approved curricula.

Ensure attendance is recorded at all youth activities by designated program leaders.

Engage with families of children who have been absent for extended periods.

Communicate updates regarding children's ministries to parents, program leaders, corps members, and the community, including a monthly Youth Program Newsletter.


Organize and implement special events for children, including Family Outreach events, Back to School Drives, Troop Court of Awards, and seasonal plays/musicals.

Assist in coordinating transportation for youth to and from programs, particularly on Sundays and Wednesdays.

Support the planning and execution of the ENCORE worship arts initiative.

Maintain and organize youth ministry supplies throughout the year.


Plan, coordinate, and manage all aspects of an annual week-long Vacation Bible School, including promotional materials, daily crafts, activities, Bible lessons, and volunteer recruitment.


Encourage, recruit, and transport youth to Divisional and Territorial events such as SAY (Salvation Army Youth) Rally, Corps Cadet Retreat, and Divisional Youth Retreat.


Participate in youth ministry training sessions, both within The Salvation Army and externally, as approved by the Corps Officers/Assistant Officers to remain informed on trends and educational opportunities in youth ministry.


Must be able to lead chapel sessions and provide Bible instruction for children in the After School Program and Early Care & Education Program.

Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:


Assist the Corps Officers in training and record-keeping related to child safety protocols for all volunteers working with minors and vulnerable adults.


Help prepare resources for Troops (Moonbeams, Sunbeams, Girl Guards, and Adventure Corps) leaders, including submitting reports to the Corps Officers and Divisional Headquarters.

Serve as a troop leader as needed.


Support the Corps Cadet Counselor and Bible Bowl Coaches with necessary resources, including ordering and distributing approved Salvation Army materials.


Plan, coordinate, and implement creative arts and music programs for youth, including events for Christmas, Easter, and youth fundraisers.

Assist with the recruitment and registration of campers for Summer Camp.


Seek opportunities to connect with youth in the Community Center, Early Care and Education Center, and After School Program.

Attend monthly Corps Council and Pastoral Council meetings.

Participate in all required staff meetings and events.


Assist with the Christmas Kettle program as needed, including driving, collecting kettles and donations, and counting funds.

Plan and implement weekly Young People's Legion (YPL) youth group.

Perform any other duties as assigned by Corps Officers and/or assistant Corps Officers.

Maintain and submit statistical reports.

Oversee and recruit volunteers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of 2 years of college education and 2 years of experience working with youth.

Proficient in spoken and written English at a professional level.

High degree of confidentiality.

Familiarity with the Salvation Corps Youth Program is preferred, especially for individuals active in the Salvation Army and knowledgeable about the youth at Roseville Corps.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Professional telephone etiquette and presence.

Strong organizational skills.

Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple tasks.

Experience with social media and communication through these platforms.


Must demonstrate a strong personal commitment to Christ, embody high integrity, profess Christian beliefs, and feel comfortable discussing Christianity with children and adults.

Preference for individuals who are Salvation Army soldiers or eligible for membership within six months.

Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple tasks.

Familiarity with Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher is required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or equivalent is required; an AA degree is a plus.

At least two years of experience in youth ministry and programming is required.

Must demonstrate, articulate, and model a mature Christian faith and sense of vocation in the ministry of Christian discipleship.

Knowledge and skills in youth and spiritual development are essential.

Must enroll as a Senior Soldier church member of The Salvation Army Roseville Corps within six months of employment.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both in writing and orally, with excellent interpersonal skills.

Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks with attention to detail.

Ability to maintain flexibility in response to changing priorities.

Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License and be able to operate a Salvation Army vehicle.

Must be 21 years or older.

Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training.


Possession of a valid California Class B Driver License with passenger endorsement is preferred, or ability to obtain within six months of hire.

Must pass DOT Pre-Employment and DOT Physical.

Authorize The Salvation Army to add name to the CA DMV Pull Notice Program.

Must successfully pass a criminal background check, including a DOJ livescan fingerprint check.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.

Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects.

Ability to reach overhead.

Ability to operate a telephone.

Ability to lift up to 50-70 lbs.

Ability to operate a computer.

Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information.

Ability to operate basic office equipment and tools, including PC, Fax Machine, Telephone, Calculator, Copier, and Printer.

Ability to use miscellaneous office equipment such as staplers and three-hole punches.
