Position Overview

Join the dynamic team at the Parks, Recreation & Libraries department as an Early Childhood Educator.
This temporary, part-time role involves engaging with preschool-aged children in various programs across City facilities. The typical work schedule may include weekdays, with hours from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., or as an on-call substitute educator.
Key Responsibilities
As an Early Childhood Educator, you will be responsible for:
1. Planning and executing age-appropriate activities that foster social interaction, creativity, and physical development.
2. Cultivating positive relationships with students and parents while adhering to established disciplinary protocols.
3. Ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming classroom environment.
4. Reporting any maintenance or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel.
5. Promoting safety procedures and providing first aid and CPR when necessary.
6. Developing weekly lesson plans and maintaining communication through newsletters.
7. Managing the program budget and procuring necessary supplies.
8. Building collaborative relationships with colleagues and the community, emphasizing excellent customer service.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:
- A foundational understanding of preschool-aged children's needs and interests.
- Knowledge of effective public relations and communication techniques.
- Familiarity with modern office equipment and software.
- First aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
Skills and Abilities
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to:
1. Follow safety protocols and interpret policies effectively.
2. Engage in physical activities such as setting up equipment and lifting supplies.
3. Lead diverse activities tailored to preschool programs.
4. Communicate clearly and effectively with children, parents, and staff.

Experience and Education
Applicants should have:
- A minimum of two years of experience in a preschool environment.
- Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent, along with twelve college units in early childhood education or a related field.
