Work Schedule: 7:00 am - 7:30 pm (3 twelve-hour shifts per week, rotating weekends)

Position Summary:

The Unit Secretary plays a crucial role in facilitating communication within the unit, managing patient medical records, and providing essential support to the healthcare team. This position requires interaction with adult and geriatric patients and their families in a professional and compassionate manner.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Exemplifies the RML REACH culture by showing respect, excellence, appreciation, concern, and honor in all interactions.
  • Welcomes patients and visitors, providing information and assistance as needed. Manages all communications within the patient care unit.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information and complies with HIPAA regulations.
  • Responds promptly to patient call lights and monitors alarms to ensure patient safety.
  • Develops proficiency in Meditech and other relevant software, seeking resources for self-improvement.
  • Coordinates patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, including transportation arrangements.
  • Maintains accurate patient care records and documentation.
  • Ensures a clean and organized work environment, relieving other unit secretaries as necessary.
  • Collaborates with nursing management and peers to enhance communication and operational efficiency.
  • Participates in training and orientation of new staff members.
  • Engages in ongoing education and staff meetings, fulfilling all annual requirements.
  • Promotes a safe workplace by reporting hazards and adhering to safety protocols.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology or completion of a medical terminology course.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting as a unit secretary or in a similar clerical role.

Working Conditions:

This position is performed in a patient care environment, requiring the ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
