Role Summary

The Clinical Coordinator for Cardiac Pulmonary Medicine embodies the core mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare. This role requires adherence to the organization's ethical standards and compliance with all relevant policies and regulations.

This position is designated for an experienced Registered Nurse who, alongside providing direct patient care, will facilitate a collaborative approach to patient management, staffing, resource allocation, and problem resolution during assigned shifts.

The Cardiac Pulmonary Medicine unit consists of 29 beds, primarily admitting patients from intensive care units or emergency services. Our focus encompasses both cardiology and pulmonology, catering to patients with significant respiratory care needs, as well as those recovering from cardiac procedures. The unit is staffed with dedicated nursing and respiratory therapy professionals to ensure optimal patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee unit operations on a shift basis, ensuring compliance with policies and regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate staffing assignments to deliver high-quality, cost-effective patient care.
  • Direct patient care activities performed by nursing staff and support personnel during shifts.
  • Lead new initiatives and participate in committees or task forces at the unit, departmental, or hospital level.
  • Engage with patients and their families regarding nursing care and treatment plans.
  • Implement action plans to ensure safe, quality, and efficient patient care.
  • Maintain the safety and security of patients, families, and staff.
  • Provide direct patient care as needed.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Clinical: Exhibit clinical proficiency, conduct ongoing assessments of patients and their families, and respond to their needs effectively.
  • Professional: Maintain a professional demeanor, advocate for patients and the nursing profession, and demonstrate accountability and compassion.
  • Leadership: Understand the organizational culture, ensure a safe environment, and facilitate effective communication across departments.
  • Education: Identify staff development needs and contribute to orientation and training.
  • Research: Ensure completion of research activities and participate in nursing research initiatives.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Valid Registered Professional Nurse license in the State of Illinois.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.

Preferred:

  • Specialty certification in the relevant clinical area.
  • Additional clinical experience in a different specialty.
