Position Overview

Willdan is looking for a Sustainable Building Consultant to join our innovative and dynamic team.

The Sustainable Building Consultant will be instrumental in advising on energy-efficient building design alternatives and decarbonization strategies for new construction and significant renovation initiatives.

This role involves collecting necessary data to evaluate energy and carbon reduction options using energy models, coordinating project timelines and meetings, managing the expectations of design teams and program managers, and providing expert consultation while presenting findings to project stakeholders, including owners, architects, and engineers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate directly with building owners, architects, and engineers to comprehend their energy conservation and decarbonization objectives.
  • Oversee a diverse portfolio of projects at various stages of the consulting process.
  • Conduct energy simulation analyses and deliver model outcomes efficiently.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports detailing energy modeling and decarbonization findings along with design recommendations.
  • Effectively communicate energy conservation strategies to both technical and non-technical team members to facilitate informed design choices.
  • Partner with project managers to ensure high-quality results and deliverables.
  • Stay informed about California energy policies and regulations (e.g., Title 24).
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Building Science, or a closely related field.
  • Understanding of building design, construction processes, and/or building operations.
  • Proven ability to accurately interpret complex information and make strategic recommendations to guide decision-making by identifying anticipated benefits, consequences, and impacts of alternative system options.
  • Familiarity with tools such as MS Excel for manipulating model inputs and summarizing results.
  • Knowledge of California energy codes and utility energy efficiency programs.
  • Experience with energy modeling using various software such as CBECC-COM, EnergyPro, DOE-2, EnergyPlus, and eQuest in building consultations.
  • Prior involvement with California Savings by Design program.
  • Capacity to manage a high volume of projects within a limited timeframe.
  • Strong aptitude for balancing breadth and depth to deliver energy simulation results promptly.
  • Knowledge of thermodynamics, physics, and mathematics.
  • Familiarity with energy codes and standards (Title 24, ASHRAE 55, 62.1, 90.1, 189.1).
  • Understanding of utility-sponsored energy efficiency programs, particularly those aimed at new building design.
  • Professional Engineer or Registered Architect credentials or qualifications to achieve licensure.
  • Possession of any of the following industry-related certifications: Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP), LEED Accredited Professional, Building Energy Assessment Professional (BEAP), or Commissioning Authority (CxA).
