Position Summary

The Clinical Support Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering direct patient care and ensuring smooth operations within the healthcare setting.

Key responsibilities include obtaining vital signs, collecting blood samples, and assisting healthcare professionals with procedures such as bone marrow aspirates.

Additional responsibilities encompass supporting clinic operations, which involve managing clinical supplies, educating patients, and transporting patients and specimens as necessary, while also monitoring the care environment.

This position requires onsite, full-time engagement in a collaborative healthcare environment.

Core Responsibilities
  • Ensure accurate patient identification and uphold safety, privacy, and confidentiality standards in accordance with regulations.
  • Accurately record vital signs, pain assessments, and other metrics in Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Report any significant changes in patient conditions or vital signs to the medical team promptly.
  • Collect and label specimens correctly, providing instructions to patients and families as needed.
  • Perform phlebotomy and EKG procedures as required, adhering to patient identification protocols.
  • Assist with specific procedural needs within the disease center as applicable.
  • Transport patients, medical records, and specimens in line with institutional policies.
  • Ensure all scheduled patients are accounted for and communicate expected wait times effectively.
  • Support research initiatives by entering patient data as necessary.
  • Maintain adequate supplies and equipment in clinical areas and assist with medical record preparation.
  • Keep the patient care environment and equipment clean and well-maintained.
  • Stay informed about current computer systems utilized in clinical settings.
  • Utilize communication systems effectively, providing clear instructions and updates to patients and families.
  • Address any patient and family concerns with appropriate staff members.
  • Participate in mandatory training and educational sessions, completing annual competency assessments and adhering to institutional policies.
  • Adapt to additional responsibilities as the needs of patients and the healthcare team evolve.
Qualifications

A High School Diploma or GED is required; coursework in a related field is preferred.

Clinical Experience:
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program with an externship, or a minimum of one year of experience in a related clinical role (e.g., Medical Assistant, Clinical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or similar). In certain cases, nursing students with relevant clinical rotations may be considered.

Phlebotomy certification may be preferred based on specific location requirements.

Ability to apply institutional policies to resolve routine issues and build effective working relationships.

Certifications:
BLS Certification is required within 60 days of hire.
