Overview:

In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, the Clinical Support Specialist is responsible for delivering a range of direct patient care activities. This includes, but is not limited to, monitoring vital signs and assisting in patient readiness for medical procedures. The role also involves supporting healthcare providers and coordinating with various departments to ensure seamless service delivery. Administrative responsibilities include managing forms, processing lab requests, handling phone inquiries, and sending appointment reminders. If the Clinical Support Specialist has proficiency in additional languages, they may be called upon to provide translation services as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

90% Patient Care and Clinical Administrative Functions

  • Conduct patient care tasks such as measuring vital signs, administering nebulizer treatments, weighing patients, performing EKGs, checking oxygen saturation, conducting hearing and vision tests, and monitoring blood glucose levels.
  • Record initial patient history, including primary concerns and visit objectives, as well as document care services provided in the patient's medical record.
  • Review and reconcile patient medications during the initial assessment.
  • Assist healthcare providers during procedures and serve as a chaperone when necessary.
  • Perform urine pregnancy tests, routine urinalysis, and rapid strep tests.
  • Prepare examination rooms and assist patients in getting ready for their evaluations.
  • Collect, label, and prepare specimens and cultures for laboratory analysis.
  • Provide translation support as needed.
  • Review schedules prior to clinic days to assess patient needs for upcoming visits.
  • Engage in discussions with providers regarding their scheduled patients.

5% Administrative Responsibilities

  • Ensure examination rooms are stocked with necessary clinical supplies.
  • Manage phone calls, take messages, and relay information as required.
  • Monitor and complete flow sheets as directed by healthcare providers.
  • Participate in Health Center meetings as necessary.
  • Assist in call center operations as assigned by the nurse supervisor, communicating with nurses and providers regarding patient inquiries.

5% Professional Development and Training

  • Enhance and maintain professional knowledge through ongoing education and training programs.
  • Mentor Medical Assistant students as assigned.
  • Engage in individual or group educational sessions.
  • Contribute to Health Center committees.
  • Maintain certification (CMA) through an accredited credentialing organization.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned by the Director of Clinical Operations or Nurse Manager.

Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program and current certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is required.

Certification as a CMA or CRMA is mandatory.

The ideal candidate should possess at least one year of recent clinical experience in a healthcare setting, demonstrate flexibility, organizational skills, and the ability to stand for extended periods. Cultural and ethnic sensitivity is essential.

Bilingual proficiency in Haitian Creole or Spanish is advantageous but not required.
