Position Overview
- This role is designed to be an integral part of both the clinical and administrative teams, ensuring the efficient operation of the medical practice. The Healthcare Assistant/Patient Service Coordinator is expected to maintain a professional demeanor while interacting with patients and other stakeholders, whether in person, over the phone, or via electronic communication.
- Core Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with healthcare providers to facilitate exceptional patient care.
- Prepare examination rooms and assist patients for their appointments.
- Measure and record vital signs accurately, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and other relevant metrics, entering data into the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Document patient medical history, primary concerns, medication lists, and other pertinent information in the EMR.
- Secure necessary consents and complete forms as required for various types of visits.
- Conduct in-office tests as needed, ensuring quality control for specific procedures.
- Perform EKGs as directed by healthcare providers.
- Provide support to healthcare providers during patient examinations as needed.
- Administer vaccines and medications as prescribed, adhering to established protocols.
- Maintain inventory and monitor the expiration dates of medical supplies in examination rooms.
- Assist with incoming calls by answering, triaging, and directing calls appropriately.
- Register patients in the EMR system, verifying demographic and insurance information, and conducting eligibility checks.
- Schedule patient appointments and coordinate necessary tests as instructed.
- Follow established scheduling protocols to manage patient visits across various practices.
- Engage in pre-visit planning for upcoming appointments to ensure preparedness.
- Conduct outreach to designated patient groups as directed to enhance care quality and schedule specialty appointments.
- Communicate any clinical or administrative supply needs to management and assist with procurement.
- Obtain prior authorizations and insurance referrals as required by practice operations.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while adhering to all policies and procedures.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times, exercising discretion in all interactions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Qualifications:
- Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Experience with electronic medical records is highly preferred; familiarity with Athena is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook is preferred.
- Education & Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Completion of an accredited medical assistant program or equivalent experience is preferred.
- One to three years of experience in a medical assistant role is preferred.
