Senior Vice President of Investment Accounting

Position Overview:
Athene is seeking a distinguished VP Head of Investment Accounting to spearhead our investment accounting division. This role involves leading a team focused on GAAP and Statutory reporting, driving enhancements in processes and automation, and fortifying our control environment. The VP will also oversee daily accounting and financial reporting operations while collaborating with third-party asset managers to ensure timely and accurate data delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Report directly to the Senior Vice President of Finance, who manages Investment Accounting, Derivative Finance & Operations, FP&A, Sales & Expense Reporting, and Transaction Solutions.
- Collaborate with senior leadership across Athene and Apollo to ensure that investment accounting functions are executed efficiently and in a controlled manner. Key stakeholders include:
-SVP, Athene Derivative Finance
-VP, Athene Finance Transformation
-Partner, APO Finance
-Principal, APO Insurance Solutions Group Investment Accounting
- Lead a diverse team of investment accounting professionals across various locations responsible for both GAAP and regulatory financial investment reporting.
- Oversee the SOX control environment related to investment accounting to ensure efficient and effective execution of processes and procedures.
- Provide regular updates to senior management regarding team performance and any emerging issues.
- Conduct analytical procedures to assist management in evaluating the company's investment performance against established strategies and objectives.
- Adjust team workload as necessary to meet operational requirements effectively.
- Ensure all team members are cross-trained to maintain adequate coverage.
- Act as the control owner for investment accounting SOX controls, regularly reviewing and updating them as needed.
- Stay informed about market trends, investment strategies, and evolving accounting regulations to ensure compliance.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- CPA designation is highly preferred.
- Over 10 years of experience in investment accounting with a proven track record of managerial growth.
- At least 5 years of management experience.
- Strong expertise in Fixed Income, Structured Securities, Mortgage Loans, and Alternative Investments; knowledge of derivatives is advantageous.
- Ability to effectively engage with senior management across Athene and Apollo.
- Demonstrated skills in problem-solving and process enhancement.
- A keen attention to detail while understanding the broader strategic implications.
- Experience with PAM is a plus.
- Public Accounting experience is beneficial.
-The Los Angeles office operates on a hybrid work schedule (3/2) and offers complimentary meals during the week.
Compensation for this role is competitive and will be determined based on geographic location, experience, education, and skill level at the time of the offer. A discretionary bonus plan or variable sales incentive may also be included depending on the role.
