Role Overview:
Athene is seeking a highly esteemed Senior Vice President of Investment Accounting. This pivotal role involves leading a dedicated investment accounting team, engaging in GAAP and Statutory reporting, spearheading process enhancements and automation, and ensuring a robust control environment. The VP will also oversee daily accounting and financial reporting operations while collaborating closely with third-party asset managers to guarantee the timely and accurate provision of data.
Key Responsibilities:
- Report directly to the Senior Vice President of Finance, who manages Investment Accounting, Derivative Finance & Operations, FP&A, Sales & Expense Reporting, and Transaction Solutions.
- Collaborate with senior executives across Athene and Apollo to ensure that investment accounting tasks necessary for closing the company's financial records are executed efficiently and effectively.
- Lead a diverse team of investment accounting professionals across various locations, ensuring compliance with both GAAP and regulatory financial reporting standards.
- Oversee the SOX control framework related to investment accounting financial reporting, ensuring processes are executed with efficiency and effectiveness.
- Provide regular updates to senior management regarding team performance and any significant issues or achievements.
- Develop and implement analytical procedures to assist senior management in evaluating the company's investment performance against established strategies and objectives.
- Adjust team workloads as necessary to meet operational requirements effectively.
- Ensure comprehensive cross-training of staff to maintain adequate coverage.
- Act as the control owner for investment accounting SOX controls, regularly reviewing and updating them to align with team processes.
- Stay informed about market trends, investment strategies, and evolving accounting regulations to ensure compliance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting and/or Finance.
- CPA designation is highly preferred.
- Over 10 years of experience in investment accounting with a proven track record of progressive managerial roles.
- At least 5 years of management experience.
- Strong expertise in Fixed Income, Structured Securities, Mortgage Loans, and Alternative Investments; knowledge of derivatives is advantageous.
- Ability to effectively communicate with senior management across both Athene and Apollo.
- Demonstrated skills in problem-solving and process improvement.
- A keen attention to detail while understanding how these details impact broader strategic objectives.
- Experience with PAM is a plus.
- Public Accounting experience is beneficial.
Work Environment:
The majority of the team, along with key associates, operates in a hybrid work schedule. Our office promotes a collaborative atmosphere with amenities such as complimentary meals during the workweek.
Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is competitive within the market. Actual compensation will be determined based on geographic location, work experience, education, and relevant skills at the time of the offer. A discretionary bonus plan or variable sales incentive may also be included.
