Job Summary

The Legal Assistant provides high-level administrative support to attorneys by performing a variety of tasks that may include preparing case information, tracking cases, supporting attorney's trial proceedings, and establishing and organizing files.

Key Responsibilities
  • Case Management
    • Establish and organize files to ensure efficient case management.
    • Monitor calendars and meet deadlines to ensure timely case progression.
    • Document actions and input information into file database and case management software.
    • Confirm case status with attorneys.
  • Case Development
    • Maintain contact with individuals involved in the case.
    • Schedule depositions and prepare and forward summonses and subpoenas.
    • Draft complaints and prepare and file discovery requests.
    • Prepare responses to opposing counsel and generate status reports.
  • Client Communication
    • Maintain contact with clients to keep them informed of case progress.
  • File Management
    • Create files to establish and organize case information.
    • Maintain case and correspondence files.
  • Organization and Prioritization
    • Accept ownership for accomplishing new and different requests.
    • Explore opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
    Required Skills and Abilities
    • Detail-oriented and professional.
    • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
    • Extremely proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Basic understanding of office equipment.
    • Basic understanding of clerical procedures and systems such as recordkeeping and filing.
    • Flexible and adaptable in various situations and when interacting with many different personalities.
    • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
    • Knowledge of, or ability to quickly acquire, familiarity with the roles and function of the assigned department, and any specifically applicable laws or guidelines.
    • Dependable with a respect to confidentiality and policies.
    Education and Experience
    • High diploma required; Associates degree preferred.
    • One year of legal office experience required; two years preferred.
    Physical Requirements
    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Ability to stand, sit, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, grip and type.
    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
