We are currently seeking an Overnight Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency and Critical Care team. This role involves dual training with the anesthesia service to facilitate the induction and monitoring of general anesthesia for animals undergoing emergency procedures.

With over 30 years of experience, our team is dedicated to providing exceptional patient care and anesthesia services.

We are looking for a team member who will engage in emergency and critical care nursing and be prepared to transition to the operating room as necessary.

Mentorship will be provided by both the anesthesia and critical care teams.

Key Responsibilities:


As a Veterinary Technician in the emergency department, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary clinical care team to deliver high-quality nursing care to patients in various states, including inpatient, outpatient, critically ill, and emergency cases.

This role also encompasses the responsibility of instrumenting and monitoring patients receiving general anesthesia for emergency surgeries during your assigned shifts.

Essential Functions:

Clinical Anesthesia:

Conduct assessments and manage anesthesia for patients from induction through recovery.


Provide compassionate service to patients while supporting co-workers and students, in alignment with our hospital's commitment to minimizing fear, anxiety, stress, and pain.

Emergency and Critical Care:

Work alongside administrative and clinical teams to prioritize and coordinate patient care. Assist clinicians with various procedures.

Monitor, manage, and execute treatment plans as directed by clinicians to ensure timely delivery of high-quality patient care.

Perform diagnostic tests as requested by clinicians, including laboratory tests and radiographs. Provide technical support for clinical and academic research.

Cleaning and Stocking:


Maintain cleanliness and organization of supplies and equipment in all areas related to anesthesia and emergency services. Complete assigned projects from supervisors.


Teaching:

Provide clinical instruction regarding anesthesia and emergency care protocols to veterinary students, interns, residents, and student technicians.

Other duties may be assigned by supervisors, including emergency case management and educational responsibilities.

The anticipated schedule for this position is Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 8 PM to 8:15 AM.

This is a three-day overnight position, and weekend shifts are not required.

Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:
High emotional intelligence and exceptional interpersonal communication skills.

Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.

Motivated learner eager to enhance knowledge and skills.

Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology or equivalent experience. A minimum of two years of veterinary technician experience is required.

Certification as a Veterinary Technician or a minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a veterinary technician without certification.

Proficient in Microsoft Word.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:

Basic skills in IV catheter placement, animal handling, and phlebotomy.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Professional communication skills.

Willingness to learn advanced anesthesia practices, protocols, and patient assessment.
