This role is eligible for a $2,000 sign-on bonus after the successful completion of six months of employment for newly hired personnel.


Key Responsibilities:


The Veterinary Technician in Radiation Oncology collaborates within a cohesive clinical team to deliver high-quality nursing care to both inpatient and outpatient radiation oncology patients. The service specializes in providing radiation therapy for cancer patients in a collaborative, team-oriented setting.

We are looking for a candidate with strong technical skills, including anesthesia experience, excellent communication abilities, and a capacity for multitasking, along with a willingness to learn. Training in anesthesia and radiation therapy will be provided as necessary. Additionally, the Veterinary Technician will supervise and mentor veterinary students during their rotations.

This position offers opportunities for advanced training in specialty medicine, the chance to build relationships with long-term patients and clients, and a regular work schedule without on-call or weekend responsibilities.

The Veterinary Technician II undertakes complex and varied clinical tasks in veterinary patient care and performs more intricate technical procedures.


A generous continuing education allowance and tuition reimbursement are available to all technicians employed at Foster Hospital for Small Animals, promoting both personal and professional development.

The minimum compensation for this position is $25 per hour based on a 35-hour work week, with potential for higher pay based on education, experience, and credentials.

Qualifications:

Essential Requirements:
A high school diploma or equivalent with three years of experience as a veterinary technician in a fast-paced environment, OR an Associate or Bachelor's degree from an AVMA-accredited institution in veterinary technology, veterinary nursing, or veterinary science, along with one year of experience in a university or large-scale hospital, OR certification as a Veterinary Technician in good standing.


Proven ability to work independently on basic tasks and procedural skills, as well as the capability to perform more advanced tasks under supervision.


Strong interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration within a diverse team of clinical and administrative professionals.

Highly motivated, enthusiastic self-starter with a professional demeanor.

Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology and veterinary pharmacology.

Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent service to both internal and external clients.

Familiarity with Diagnostic Imaging in a veterinary context, particularly small animal radiography.

A passion for teaching, which includes sharing knowledge and expertise with colleagues across the Small and Large Animal Hospitals as well as students.

Teaching also necessitates a commitment to ongoing professional development, including participation in Continuing Education and maintaining credentials and certifications.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn electronic medical record systems and other software utilized.

Required Technical Skills:
Ability to safely restrain cats and dogs using fear-free techniques

Assess the demeanor and responsiveness of dogs and cats

Obtain vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, and capillary refill time

Identify animals in pain or distress

IV catheterization

Phlebotomy (cephalic, saphenous, jugular)

Dosage calculations for medications, fluid therapy, and continuous rate infusions

Setup and monitoring of fluid therapy systems

Monitoring and recognizing physiological parameters in patients under sedation and general anesthesia

Familiarity with sedatives and tranquilizers

Ability to utilize point-of-care machines

Describe and assist in CPR procedures

Capability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications:
Two or more years of experience in a specialty practice

Prior experience in Veterinary Medical or Radiation Oncology

Credentialed as a Certified Veterinary Technician or the ability to obtain credentialing

Advanced credentialing (such as Veterinary Technician Specialist) and/or experience in oncology and/or anesthesia

Work Schedule Requirements:
This position requires flexibility to ensure uninterrupted patient care.
