Moreover, our facility fosters a constructive educational environment for students and aspiring veterinary technicians, particularly in the realm of small animal emergency and critical care medicine, while also supporting the development of specialized technicians in this field.


This role is eligible for a sign-on bonus following the successful completion of a designated period of employment for newly onboarded personnel.


Key Responsibilities:


The Senior Veterinary Technician in Emergency and Critical Care is responsible for executing advanced and specialized technical procedures with minimal oversight from the attending veterinarian or supervising technician.


This position is deemed essential within the facility, and the work schedule may involve providing coverage during university and holiday breaks on a rotational basis.


As a Senior Veterinary Technician, you will:
Oversee, manage, and implement treatment protocols as directed by clinicians to ensure timely delivery of superior patient care.

Assist veterinarians with various procedures.

Collaborate with both administrative and clinical team members throughout the facility to coordinate and prioritize patient care.

Conduct diagnostic assessments as requested by clinicians, including laboratory tests.

Educate veterinary students and trainee technicians on all technical aspects of patient care.

Support the training, orientation, and mentorship of new Veterinary Technicians in all departmental functions.

Guide and mentor junior staff members as directed by supervisory personnel.

Engage in the provision of formal continuing education training.

Assist in research and projects as necessary, including the care of research or laboratory animals.

Maintain an adequate supply of medical materials and pharmaceuticals.

Ensure cleanliness and upkeep of clinical areas, including nursing stations, wards, intensive care units, emergency rooms, and surgical suites.

Provide support for other departments within the facility as required.

Participate in service and institution-wide initiatives as needed.

Complete a minimum of 6 hours of RACE-approved continuing education annually.

Effectively communicate with clients to provide education, clarify treatment plans, and review discharge instructions, including medication administration.

The work schedule for this position will consist of three days:

Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 5:00 PM to 6:00 AM.

Compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and credentials, with a minimum hourly wage of $31.

Shift differentials are available, depending on the day and scheduled shift, with an increase ranging from $2.00 to $4.00 per hour.

Qualifications:

Essential Requirements:
Proficiency in advanced technical and procedural skills related to the treatment of critically ill patients.

Certified Veterinary Technician in good standing, with educational qualifications or equivalent experience as outlined for Veterinary Technician II.


A minimum of three years of experience as a certified veterinary technician in a university hospital or a similar setting, functioning at a level consistent with a Vet Tech II.

Demonstrated capability to work independently while performing complex tasks with minimal supervision.


Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively as part of a diverse team of clinical and administrative professionals.

Strong understanding of medical terminology and veterinary pharmacology, including the ability to recognize adverse drug reactions.


Proven ability to deliver exceptional service to both internal and external clients, and to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Demonstrated ability to instruct students, as evidenced by student feedback.

Familiarity with Microsoft Office and electronic medical record systems.

Ability to independently initiate CPR procedures in the absence of an attending veterinarian.

Capability to lift up to 50 lbs with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:
A bachelor's or associate degree in Veterinary Technology is preferred.

Veterinary Technician Specialty Certification is preferred.

Credentialed as a Certified Veterinary Technician.

Fear Free Level 1 certification is preferred.

RECOVER basic and advanced life support certification is preferred.

Experience in handling exotic animals is desirable.
