Summary Statement

The individuals in these roles will be stationed at the Delaware Psychiatric Center (DPC) within the Jane E. Mitchell (JEM). Their primary responsibility will be to uphold security and safety protocols, enforcing institutional regulations and policies relevant to clients from the Department of Corrections. Key responsibilities include: managing crisis situations, conducting foot patrols of patient units, performing room and building inspections, and overseeing patient activities during meals and group sessions.

Essential Functions

The essential functions outlined below are core responsibilities common to all positions within this classification and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties for any specific role.

  • Monitors client behavior and communicates any significant changes to nursing and clinical staff; observes visitor conduct and intervenes to de-escalate potential conflicts.
  • Responds to psychiatric emergencies involving aggressive clients and assists in managing trespassers and locating missing clients.
  • Ensures the safety and security of individuals and property in accordance with established policies.
  • Oversees the safety of state property and the well-being of staff and visitors by managing access points within the forensic facility.
  • Handles internal emergency communications, relaying critical information to appropriate personnel and monitoring alarm systems.
  • Utilizes electronic communication systems to verify authorized access and manage entry from the control center.
  • Responds to internal hazards, emergencies, and other risks.
  • Conducts regular inspections of the forensic facility, ensuring all safety mechanisms are functional and secure.
  • Performs searches of clients, visitors, and facility grounds for prohibited items and conducts client counts.
  • Provides information and assistance to visitors of the forensic unit as needed.
  • May be required to document incidents, prepare reports, and maintain logs of activities.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Forensic Security Officer I
Candidates must demonstrate education, training, and/or experience in the following areas:
  • A minimum of six months of experience in maintaining the security and safety of individuals and facilities.
  • Familiarity with security systems and surveillance technologies.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked, or canceled).
