Overview

This position is for an Analytical Chemist specializing in Forensic Toxicology. The successful candidate will report to the Lab Manager I and will be responsible for a variety of analytical tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct analysis of intricate biological samples related to forensic cases.
  • Manage and review documentation associated with batch processing.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot sophisticated analytical instruments.
  • Prepare necessary standards and reagents for testing.
  • Provide expert testimony in legal settings.

Selective Requirements

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following selective requirements:
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Forensic Science, or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

While not mandatory, the following qualifications are preferred:
  • A minimum of six months of experience in toxicology.

Essential Duties

The essential functions of this role are core responsibilities that are common across the series and do not represent an exhaustive list of all duties. Incumbents may also perform similar tasks not specifically listed here.

  • Prepare samples for instrumental analysis and interpret instrument data.
  • Utilize advanced analytical chemistry techniques to collect data from samples.
  • Analyze laboratory results to assess the presence and concentration of toxins and other chemical constituents.
  • Generate reports that detail sample identification, testing methodologies, and findings.

Job Requirements for Analytical Chemist II

Candidates must demonstrate competence in the following areas:

  • Six months of experience in generating and interpreting chemical test data through quantitative and/or qualitative analysis.
  • Six months of experience in selecting appropriate laboratory testing methods.
  • Six months of experience in physical, organic, inorganic, or analytical chemistry.
  • Six months of experience in the use of laboratory equipment, including calibration and maintenance.
  • Six months of experience in technical report writing.

Job Requirements for Analytical Chemist III

Candidates must demonstrate competence in the following areas:

  • Three years of experience in generating and interpreting chemical test data through quantitative and/or qualitative analysis.
  • Three years of experience in selecting and modifying laboratory testing methods.
  • Six months of experience in conducting data reviews to ensure accuracy in numerical input and compliance with analytical procedures.
  • Three years of experience in physical, organic, inorganic, or analytical chemistry.
  • Three years of experience in the use of laboratory equipment, including calibration and maintenance.
  • Six months of experience in technical report writing.
