Position Overview:

The Community Engagement Specialist will represent Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) by fostering effective communication among the community, businesses, non-profit organizations, the general public, and DART's Board and staff. This role is essential in promoting awareness and understanding of public transportation initiatives, particularly DART's capital projects, service modifications, and various programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organizes and facilitates public meetings, hearings, and similar events to gather community input and build consensus before and during the implementation of projects, programs, and service changes.
  • Develops and manages meetings in various formats, including virtual platforms, to encourage public participation in DART's activities.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), regarding public involvement.
  • Actively participates in community events such as town hall meetings and civic functions within the DART service area to address community concerns and provide information.
  • Engages in DART's outreach and educational initiatives to enhance community understanding.
  • Maintains and updates the external stakeholder contact database to ensure effective communication.
  • Strengthens DART's involvement in local chambers of commerce and community organizations.
  • Builds and nurtures relationships with diverse stakeholder groups to facilitate a positive exchange of information.
  • Assists in conducting research for the planning and development of new or revised DART programs and services.
  • Collaborates with consultants and DART staff to complete various projects and initiatives.
  • Acts as a knowledgeable liaison between DART and external organizations, keeping supervisors informed of community relations and issues.
  • Prepares comprehensive reports and updates, including agenda reports, status updates, briefing documents, and presentations, ensuring clarity and effectiveness in communication.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Communications, Political Science, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in community relations or public relations, including experience in meeting planning and facilitation.
  • Ability to pass a medical examination that includes a drug screening.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Effective multitasking abilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Commitment to meeting the needs of stakeholders and building effective relationships.
  • Sound decision-making skills based on analysis and experience.
  • Quick learner with the ability to grasp new concepts and technical knowledge.
  • Exceptional written communication skills across various formats.
  • Ability to foster collaboration and maintain positive peer relationships.
  • Strong logical reasoning skills to identify and address complex issues.

Work Environment:

The position involves working in an environment with minimal exposure to dust, noise, or extreme temperatures. There may be moderate exposure to various working conditions while visiting operational facilities, provided all safety protocols and regulations are followed.
