The Community Engagement Specialist plays a vital role in the Downtown Dallas outreach initiative.

This position focuses on interacting with individuals facing homelessness, delivering critical services, and linking them to further resources to facilitate their transition into secure housing while addressing the root causes of their situation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Connect with individuals experiencing homelessness in the community through direct outreach and collaboration with service organizations, ensuring they are linked with case managers or relevant service providers.
  • Support the outreach coordinator and assistant manager in organizing the activities of the outreach team.
  • Maintain precise records and data collection using mobile tracking systems for all interactions with homeless individuals.
  • Direct individuals to suitable community resources and support services.
  • Conduct follow-up visits to verify that individuals are receiving the necessary assistance and support.
  • Build trust and rapport with homeless individuals to understand their needs through a Housing First approach.
  • Refer individuals to agencies and shelters that align with their specific needs.
  • Participate in weekly and monthly outreach meetings as required.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Requirements

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience in homeless services, outreach, or a related area.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.

Understanding the social service landscape and available resources to support homeless individuals, along with familiarity with the challenges associated with homelessness, such as mental health and substance abuse issues.
