Position Overview

The Senior Manager – Reinsurance Accounting will take on a pivotal leadership role, driving the growth of the business through effective management of reinsurance accounting functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the preparation of GAAP and STAT reinsurance financial reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Conduct thorough analyses of statutory penalties and develop remediation strategies.
  • Lead a team focused on enhancing reporting capabilities and analytical oversight.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on collateral management and coordinate efforts across various functional teams, including Controllership, Actuarial, Reinsurance, and FP&A.
  • Report directly to the Assistant Director of Reinsurance Accounting and Reinsurer Reporting, managing a global cross-functional team of up to 5 members and an offshore team.

Impactful Contributions

  • Direct financial reporting activities (GAAP/STAT), focusing on quarterly and annual statutory statements, including necessary disclosures and accounting for retroactive reinsurance.
  • Engage with financial controls, internal and external audit teams to ensure compliance and accuracy in reinsurance operations.
  • Manage critical reinsurance accounting processes and associated controls, prioritizing projects and initiatives for process improvement.
  • Provide strategic guidance and recommendations for resolving emerging issues by leveraging extensive industry knowledge.
  • Maintain visibility at the senior management level, fostering alignment through effective communication and thought leadership.

Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance (preferred). Advanced degrees or professional designations (e.g., ARe, CPCU, MBA, CPA) are advantageous.

Experience:
Minimum of 6 years in a relevant role within an insurance or reinsurance organization, with a strong background in ceded reinsurance and team leadership.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • In-depth understanding of reinsurance processes, including underwriting, claims, accounting, and finance.
  • Proven experience in managing reinsurance operations and financial oversight.
  • Familiarity with industry trends and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical skills, with proficiency in financial modeling and analysis.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles and practices relevant to the insurance sector.
  • Expertise in strategic planning, resource allocation, and leadership techniques.
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with experience engaging with executive management and external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate diverse teams across various regions and time zones.
  • Experience in process transformation and control enhancement is a significant advantage.
