Qualifications:
A high school diploma or G.E.D. is required, along with two years of experience in human services administration; alternatively, an associated degree in a related field or a comparable combination of education and experience is acceptable.
Licenses Required:
Individuals in this role typically need:
- A valid Driver's License or proof of equivalent mobility.
Role Responsibilities:
This position is pivotal in assisting clients by identifying community resources and providing tailored information to meet their needs. Key responsibilities include:
1. Managing complex case support activities for an assigned caseload from initiation to closure, which encompasses independently assessing program eligibility, initiating legal actions, reviewing case files for compliance with program standards, and providing referrals to relevant agencies and community resources.
2. Evaluating client eligibility for various income maintenance programs, including medical, cash, food, and emergency assistance, based on established program guidelines. Conducting initial interviews to gather pertinent information to assess client needs and financial situations while effectively managing a high volume of inquiries.
3. Keeping case files updated to accurately reflect changes in client status.
4. Calculating overpayments and underpayments, establishing claims, and enforcing sanctions as necessary. Identifying and initiating referrals for potential fraud investigations.
5. Performing additional duties as required.
Decision-Making Authority:
Employees in this position are generally accountable for achieving clearly defined objectives, adhering to standard operating procedures, and may provide guidance to other staff members.
Supervision:
Employees apply established procedures to specific scenarios and work under general direction to achieve objectives. They may also mentor and train temporary or regular staff and assist in troubleshooting issues based on their experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of fundamental principles of human/social services and human behavior.
- Strong time management abilities.
- Proficient language, literacy, and writing skills.
- Familiarity with applicable evaluation methods and practices in the relevant area.
- Interviewing skills.
- Customer service expertise.
- Ability to maintain composure in emotionally charged situations.
- Knowledge of recordkeeping practices.
- Proficiency in computer applications and software.
- Understanding of relevant Federal, State, and local laws and regulations.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with various stakeholders.
