As a Clinical Specimen Collection Specialist, your primary responsibility will be to obtain high-quality blood samples utilizing various phlebotomy techniques across all age demographics.

Techniques may encompass venous, capillary, arterial, and line collections, depending on the location's requirements. You will also respond promptly to medical emergencies, including traumas and codes.

In this role, you will work both autonomously and collaboratively, actively engaging with team members to foster an inclusive workplace that respects diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.

You will interact with patients, nurses, providers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure exceptional customer satisfaction. A variety of computer applications and systems will be integral to your daily tasks.

Additional duties include ensuring accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, handling, and transportation, managing phone inquiries, and assisting in the training of students and new hires.

Qualifications
To be considered for this role, a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Additional Qualifications / Application Requirements

Current Community Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (CLMP) employees who have been in their position for less than two years must include an early release approval from their supervisor.

Internal candidates are required to attach their three most recent performance evaluations.
Willingness to travel to various locations for assignments is necessary.
Preferred qualifications include prior phlebotomy experience and experience in a healthcare setting.
Physical requirements include the ability to push a cart and walk distances.
Moderate to advanced computer proficiency is essential.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, effective time management, and adaptability to changing workloads are crucial.

Excellent customer service abilities are a must.
Licensure or Certification

For the Clinical Specimen Collection Specialist II position, candidates must hold a valid phlebotomy certification from an accredited laboratory certification agency, such as the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), National Health Career Association (NHA), or the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT).

Certificates from technical colleges where the course was completed are not sufficient.

Candidates must have completed a certification exam from one of the aforementioned agencies or possess one of the following valid certifications:

Medical Assistant (MA) certification from an approved agency such as the American Medical Association (AMA), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), or Medical Technologist (MT) certification.

*Ongoing maintenance of certifications is not required.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and tenure, along with internal equity considerations. The pay range for Clinical Specimen Collection Specialist I is $24.48 per hour, while the range for Clinical Specimen Collection Specialist II is $26.14 per hour.
Benefits are available for eligible employees.
Work Schedule
This is a part-time position with a schedule of 40 hours per pay period. Work hours are Monday through Friday, with various start times for an 8-hour shift. Flexibility for occasional evening or overnight coverage may be required. Candidates must be prepared to cover assignments at other Mayo Clinic Health System locations as needed.
Weekend coverage will be required every third Saturday and Sunday, with various 8-hour shifts starting from 7:00 am.
