Are you meticulous and possess strong organizational skills in legal environments? We are seeking a committed Court Clerk to contribute to the operations at Shelby County. In this role, you will be instrumental in facilitating the efficient functioning of the court by managing clerical responsibilities with precision.

Position Overview

Operates under supervision to execute clerical tasks related to court functions within designated courts.

Compensation

Pay Grade: 41

Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education

Essential Qualifications

1. A minimum of two (2) years of experience in relevant office support, bookkeeping, filing, customer service, inventory management, typing, data entry, statistical analysis, or other routine clerical tasks; AND

2. A high school diploma or equivalent GED; OR

3. One (1) year of experience in relevant office support, bookkeeping, filing, customer service, inventory management, typing, data entry, statistical analysis, or other routine clerical experience; along with one (1) year of college coursework (30 semester hours or 36 quarter hours).

4. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.

5. Experience in court-related functions is preferred.

6. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepares the docket or calendar of cases scheduled for the assigned courtroom.
  • Reviews legal documents submitted to the court for compliance with court or legal standards.
  • Organizes court case files and manages the posting, filing, and routing of documents.
  • Clarifies procedures or forms to parties requesting assistance.
  • Secures and disseminates information for judges.
  • Contacts witnesses, attorneys, and litigants to gather information for court and instructs parties on their court appearances.
  • Administers oaths to witnesses, attorneys, and litigants.
  • Records minutes of court proceedings and prepares documentation accordingly.
  • Documents case outcomes, court orders, and coordinates payment of court fees.
  • Inputs various court-related information into computer systems; edits and deletes as necessary.
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with various legal documents issued by the court.
  • Capability to maintain an organized system of records and files.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with court officials.
  • Proficiency in using personal computers.
  • Skill in writing legibly on legal documents and court files.
  • Strong communication and organizational abilities.
  • Competence in performing accurate mathematical calculations.
