General Overview

The Second Service Manager is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service while overseeing the daily operations of the sales floor. This role involves ensuring a welcoming environment for customers and maintaining effective employee relations.

Reporting Structure

Reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, and Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home.

Supervises: All positions except department heads.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Foster a positive work atmosphere that encourages teamwork and flexibility.
  • Promote a friendly environment by motivating staff to engage with customers and deliver prompt, courteous service.
  • Oversee sales floor operations and the technology required for effective customer service.
  • Ensure all customer interactions are handled with care, patience, and respect.
  • Greet customers warmly and strive to learn their names for personalized service.
  • Assist customers by guiding them to products, handling heavy items, and addressing their requests.
  • Respond to phone inquiries with friendly and helpful service.
  • Train staff on store policies and operational procedures.
  • Address customer concerns and ensure high standards of service throughout the store.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards across the store.
  • Manage inventory by ordering merchandise and verifying deliveries.
  • Participate in the recruitment and interviewing process for new hires.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Manage cash register operations and maintain accountability.
  • Conduct inspections to ensure accurate pricing and product display.
  • Uphold personal hygiene and dress standards in line with company policies.
  • Report to work punctually as scheduled.

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Assess employee motivation and create a supportive work environment.
  • Suggest improvements based on observations of employee and customer interactions.
  • Assist in creating visually appealing product displays.
  • Engage in ongoing education to stay updated on industry trends.
  • Recommend cost-saving initiatives.
  • Adjust employee schedules as necessary.
  • Manage merchandise sales to employees and customers.
  • Operate cash registers as needed.
  • Reset product placements in aisles as required.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Supervisory Duties

  • Assign and review work, maintain standards, and coordinate team activities.
  • Participate in the selection and management of new employees.
  • Recommend actions regarding employee promotions, discipline, and salary adjustments.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions.
  • Proficient in basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Capable of conducting interviews and guiding staff effectively.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent experience in a related field.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform medium work, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Visual acuity for tasks requiring close and distant vision.
  • Capable of performing various physical activities such as climbing, standing, and lifting.

Working Environment

This role involves exposure to dust, noise, and temperature variations, with potential hazards from equipment and chemicals. The work environment is fast-paced.

Equipment Utilized

Equipment includes pallet jacks, cash registers, and various office machines.
