Position Overview
The City of College Park is seeking a dedicated individual to enhance the operational effectiveness of the Legislative Department. This role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth functioning of administrative tasks that support the Mayor and City Council.
Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will utilize independent judgment to navigate and apply relevant guidelines and procedures effectively. Responsibilities include:
- Providing comprehensive administrative assistance to the Mayor and City Council, executing a variety of clerical and organizational tasks.
- Welcoming and directing visitors to the appropriate departments.
- Managing incoming and outgoing correspondence, ensuring timely processing and routing.
- Coordinating schedules for business, political, community, and interdepartmental meetings.
- Utilizing computer systems to generate confidential reports, correspondence, and other essential documents; documenting meeting notes and minutes.
- Maintaining and organizing the department's filing systems, both digital and manual.
- Participating in City meetings and events as required.
- Completing special projects and additional tasks as assigned.
- Proficient knowledge of contemporary office practices, equipment, and standard clerical procedures.
- Ability to learn and apply departmental rules, regulations, and policies.
- Familiarity with municipal functions and interdepartmental activities.
- Strong attention to detail and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Proficient in using word processing and related software.
- Physical capability to handle moderate activity, including lifting objects up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Associate's degree or two (2) years of college coursework is required; Bachelor's degree is preferred.
- A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience, preferably in the public sector.
- Strong organizational skills and experience in engaging with diverse communities.
- Pre-employment screening, including background checks and drug testing, is mandatory.
