Senior Underwriter Job Description

We're seeking a talented and driven Senior Underwriter to help us achieve our growth and profitability goals. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and managing a book of profitable Commercial E&S Excess businesses. They will also be responsible for building and maintaining effective relationships with our select wholesale distribution partners.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate accounts and apply terms and price selection
  • Underwrite within established program guidelines and underwriting authority
  • Work with Home Office Underwriting to develop and implement underwriting guidelines, appetite, and production forecast
  • Sell the product advantages of Coaction to differentiate it from competitors
  • Engage with wholesale partners to ensure alignment on appetite, opportunities, workflow, and profitability
  • Identify and communicate opportunities to increase workflow efficiency
  • Drive product/service/selection/pricing innovation of the portfolio
  • Conduct marketing trips to broker base and attend relevant industry conventions
  • Build a growing portfolio that is profitable and sustainable over the long term
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in business or a related field, or relevant industry experience
  • 5+ years of experience as an Underwriter in the Wholesale Excess space
  • Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Suite, with emphasis on Excel
  • Superior communication and organizational skills
  • Established wholesale broker relationships
  • Advanced working knowledge of E&S commercial excess products and concepts, UW, processes, and procedures, laws, and regulations
  • Successful track record of developing and maintaining strong relationships with wholesale brokers
  • Willingness to travel 10-20% of worktime, depending on need and safety
  • Demonstrate personal accountability and integrity, and ability to build strong, productive relationships across business
  • Strong decision-making skills, with ability to articulate reason behind decision and think on your feet
  • Credible source of information, able to challenge and influence decision makers with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-starter, requiring little management to get things done
