Job Description:
Position: Senior Inland Marine Underwriter
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (Remote and Office)
Summary:
In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating and analyzing underwriting data to cultivate and sustain a profitable portfolio within the Seneca division with minimal oversight. You will manage agency relationships through ongoing customer service and marketing efforts. As a technical expert, you will contribute to underwriting tasks and share industry knowledge. Additionally, you may mentor junior underwriters to enhance organizational value and collaborate with colleagues to meet departmental objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Achieve profitability, retention, and written premium targets set by the department.
- Make independent decisions within the underwriting authority and maintain appropriate documentation.
- Assist in formulating annual business objectives for assigned agents/producers, analyzing results, and ensuring accountability.
- Stay informed about market trends and identify potential risks to the department.
- Possess comprehensive knowledge of department products and services, including both admitted and non-admitted business.
- Effectively communicate the department's value proposition.
- Engage in training and initiatives, and participate in projects as needed.
- Travel may be required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of six years of experience in property & casualty underwriting, with a focus on commercial Inland Marine preferred. Familiarity with Builders' Risk, Motor Cargo, and Auto PD is advantageous.
- Strong communication and analytical skills to pursue new business and manage a substantial renewal portfolio.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Possess relevant underwriting and industry designations.
- Established connections within the wholesale and retail community in the Midwest are highly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent; CRIS, AMIM, or CPCU designations preferred.
- Adhere to departmental policies and procedures, including authority levels, to comply with C&F's risk management protocols.
