Job Description:
Position: Senior Inland Marine Underwriter
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (locations include Morristown NJ, Cherry Hill NJ, or NYC office)

Overview:
This role involves the assessment and evaluation of underwriting data to develop and sustain a profitable portfolio within the Seneca division with minimal oversight. The position requires managing agency relationships through ongoing customer engagement and marketing efforts. The candidate will serve as a technical authority in underwriting practices and possess specific industry knowledge. Mentorship of junior underwriters may be part of the role, contributing to the overall value of the organization. Collaboration with team members is essential to meet departmental objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Achieve profitability, retention, and premium writing targets set by the department.
  • Make independent underwriting decisions within established authority and maintain thorough documentation.
  • Assist in formulating annual business objectives for assigned agents/producers, analyzing outcomes, and ensuring accountability.
  • Stay informed about market trends and identify potential risks to the department.
  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of departmental products and services, covering both admitted and non-admitted lines.
  • Effectively communicate the department's value proposition.
  • Engage in training and initiatives, with potential involvement in projects.
  • Travel may be required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of six years in property & casualty underwriting, with a preference for experience in commercial Inland Marine.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills for pursuing new business and managing a substantial renewal portfolio.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational and time management capabilities.
  • Possess relevant underwriting and industry certifications.
  • Established connections within the wholesale and retail sectors in the Midwest are highly desirable.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent; CRIS, AMIM, or CPCU certifications preferred.
  • Adhere to departmental policies and procedures, including authority levels, to comply with C&F's risk management protocols.
