Position Overview:

Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Control Systems Engineer to join our Automation, Instrumentation, and Controls division. Our team operates on a 9x80 schedule, allowing for every other Friday off, with potential hybrid work options available.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in research and development of digital technologies aimed at modernizing the existing fleet of nuclear power facilities.
  • Lead and participate in projects, overseeing the technical strategy, execution, budget management, and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with other researchers and align R&D efforts with the objectives of owner-operators, vendors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Foster new partnerships within the industry, including drafting non-disclosure and cooperative research agreements to advance digital technology applications.
  • Present findings at scientific and industry conferences, and collaborate with industry partners during technical discussions.
  • Document research outcomes through reports and publications.
  • Contribute to the development of intellectual property, including patents and copyrights, and facilitate technology transfer initiatives.
  • Provide mentorship to junior staff, post-doctoral researchers, and interns in relevant activities.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary to support external collaborations.
  • This role reports directly to the Department Manager.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Level 3: Bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience; Master's degree with 2 years of experience; or PhD with 2 years of experience.
  • Level 4: Bachelor's degree with 9 years of experience; Master's degree with 6 years of experience; or PhD with 4 years of experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the technical and regulatory challenges associated with implementing digital technologies in nuclear power operations.
  • Extensive network and professional relationships within the nuclear industry.
