Job Summary

Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a highly skilled Research and Development Specialist to join our Analytical Chemistry and Characterization department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for conducting mechanical testing and analysis of nuclear graphite to develop new high-temperature reactor core components.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and Maintain Laboratory Equipment: You will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing various laboratory analytical equipment for material property testing, including mechanical load frames, Laser flash apparatus, digital scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, and dilatometers.
  • Conduct Physical, Mechanical, and Thermal Testing: You will conduct physical, mechanical, and thermal testing of unirradiated and irradiated graphite, maintaining accurate records of equipment operation and experimental data following NQA-1 requirements.
Qualifications
  • Education: A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. An Associate's degree in a related field, such as mechanical engineering or electrical engineering, is preferred.
  • Experience: Directly related experience commensurate with level is required. A background in electronics and instrumentation is ideal.
  • Testing Designated Position (TDP): This is a testing designated position, and you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
