The primary objective of this position is to assess and underwrite new business opportunities and renewals profitably, adhering to established authority levels and guidelines. You will engage with significant agents and brokers, utilizing underwriting tools to ascertain precise classifications, rates, and premium charges. A comprehensive understanding of state regulations, including cancellation and non-renewal policies, is essential for conducting business effectively within your designated territory. You will be well-versed in coverage forms and policy language, ensuring appropriate application of forms and exclusions. Additionally, you will assist in resolving premium audit disputes with assigned agents and brokers and provide guidance to colleagues.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Engaging with key agents and brokers.
- Consistently achieving financial targets (premium, loss ratio, retention, commissions, pricing, new business, and expense management) through exceptional service, renewal retention, and responsiveness to new business inquiries.
- Exploring various strategies to manage risks and enhance profitability (e.g., pricing endorsements, limits).
- Participating in projects that influence the business and actively updating your knowledge and skills through relevant courses and seminars.
- Elevating Markel's brand within the Cyber and Technology E&O product line, serving as a subject matter expert on technical issues related to Cyber and Technology E&O.
- Willingness to travel for agent visits and conferences, approximately 20% of the time.
We are looking for candidates who possess:
- 5-10 years of current expertise in Cyber and Technology E&O underwriting, particularly with Fortune 500 clients.
- Extensive experience in Cyber and Technology E&O underwriting, marketing, sales, and executive leadership in risk management.
- A strong desire and capability to enhance Markel's standing in the US Cyber and Technology E&S marketplace through external engagement and communication.
- Proven ability to negotiate successfully while fostering positive relationships with brokers.
- Expertise in navigating a matrixed organizational environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills that enhance clarity within the product line.
