Position Summary
The Parking Compliance Officer plays a crucial role within the Parking Department of The City of Frederick.

This position involves conducting routine parking enforcement duties in designated areas, adhering to state laws, city ordinances, and departmental regulations.

The officer will monitor parking zones on foot in busy downtown areas, issue parking citations, track malfunctioning parking meters, and report missing traffic signals and signs to the appropriate authorities.

Key Responsibilities
- Patrol assigned areas on foot to ensure compliance with parking regulations.
- Identify vehicles violating parking rules and issue citations using a computerized handheld ticketing device.
- Report missing, damaged, or deteriorating signs and meter issues.
- Provide information to the public regarding parking regulations and facilities, as well as directions to streets, buildings, and points of interest.
- Present documentation as needed for court proceedings.
- Wear and maintain the designated uniform provided by the city.
- Collaborate with city staff and the public to promote adherence to laws and regulations through fair and efficient parking enforcement.

The role requires regular vehicle operation while observing legal and defensive driving practices.

Qualifications
To succeed in this position, candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily. The following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to engage with the public.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High school diploma or GED with at least three months of related experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Effective communication skills in English; bilingual Spanish preferred.
  • Basic mathematical skills for calculations and data interpretation.
  • Valid Driver's License in good standing.

Physical and Work Environment Demands
The physical demands of this role require the ability to navigate the city for extended periods, attach citations to vehicles, and diagnose issues. The employee must regularly lift up to 25 pounds and possess specific vision abilities.

The work environment may expose the employee to various weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, and moderate noise levels.
