Medical Insurance Authorization Specialist



Olympic Sports & Spine (OSS) is seeking a full-time, seasoned medical insurance benefits Authorization Specialist to join our dynamic and rapidly expanding medical billing team.

The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm (no weekends required).


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage all tasks related to authorizations for designated locations.

This role requires exceptional time management skills to guarantee that patients receive prompt pre-authorizations from insurance providers. The Authorization Specialist will collaborate with front office personnel, therapists, and billing staff.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Examine referrals for precision and completeness before processing to facilitate swift prior authorization by carriers.
  • Engage with therapists and office personnel to gather medical documentation, ensuring the treatment plan aligns with the diagnosis and referrals on record.
  • Regularly track the status of authorizations and conduct follow-up calls with insurance companies.
  • Create and maintain authorization records, ensuring accurate documentation and communication.
  • Ensure that authorizations are finalized for the next day's patients, or if not achievable, effectively communicate with office staff and therapists.
  • Oversee correspondence and provide detailed notes in the EMR system regarding all interactions with insurance companies, patients, clinic staff, and billing personnel.
  • Implement prior authorization workflows, policies, and procedures.
  • Safeguard patients' demographic and medical information by exercising discretion and ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
  • Participate in educational initiatives and attend monthly staff meetings.
