Senior Media Relations Specialist

Position Overview:
The Senior Media Relations Specialist plays a pivotal role in enhancing the institutional brand through strategic communication efforts. This position is responsible for fostering connections among faculty, staff, students, and the broader community, aligning messaging with the organization's strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify and develop narratives surrounding institutional initiatives and achievements for both internal and external audiences.
  • Create engaging multimedia content for various digital platforms, including written articles, videos, and graphics.
  • Act as a liaison for key institutional areas, ensuring effective communication of news and updates to the community.
  • Prepare institutional experts for media interactions, focusing on clear and impactful messaging.
  • Collaborate with local, regional, and national media outlets to secure coverage and manage press inquiries.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of digital media trends and practices, utilizing project management tools to track and document communication initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the communications team.


Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Communication, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in communications or media relations.
  • Experience in higher education or healthcare communications is preferred.


Preferred Skills:
  • A Master's degree and three years of relevant experience.
  • Strong writing and media relations skills, with a focus on relationship building.
  • Familiarity with media monitoring tools and techniques.
  • Ability to conduct media training and prepare spokespeople for interviews.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with attention to detail and organizational abilities.


Work Environment:
