Job Opportunity at the American Historical Association

We are seeking a highly qualified individual to join our team as an Assistant Professor in African History and Culture. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching History courses at various levels in our undergraduate, Master's, and doctoral programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Teach and develop courses in African History and Culture, including introductory and advanced courses
  • Conduct research and publish scholarly articles in the field of African History and Culture
  • Advise and mentor students in their academic and professional pursuits
  • Participate in departmental and university service, including committee work and curriculum development
Requirements:
  • PhD in History or a related field, with a specialization in African History and Culture
  • Strong research and teaching record, with a demonstrated ability to teach and mentor students from diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and students
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds
  • Strong publication record in the field of African History and Culture
  • Ability to contribute to the department's research and teaching initiatives in areas such as public history, health and medicine, law, the environment, and women, gender, and sexuality
