Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Principal Software Engineer to contribute to the development of innovative backend applications that enhance customer experiences in financial planning, investing, and retirement solutions. Our Digital Capability team is focused on creating user-friendly, customer-centric applications that empower Fidelity's digital platforms.

The team is responsible for building and modernizing backend capabilities that support Fidelity's extensive digital presence. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing and developing reusable backend applications that prioritize customer experience while optimizing quality and deployment practices. Collaboration with business, operations, and systems partners is essential to enable new business capabilities, adapt to regulatory changes, modernize technology solutions, and address the intricate needs of our customers. You will engage in the complete development lifecycle from concept to deployment as part of an agile, cross-functional team.

This position offers the opportunity to share your technical expertise, contributing to the growth of our engineering community while advancing your own knowledge in modernizing backend platforms.

Essential Qualifications:

Technical Expertise:

  • Minimum of 8 years of software development experience using Java or a similar programming language.
  • Strong understanding and practical experience with Relational Databases and SQL, including PostgreSQL.
  • Proficient in NoSQL Databases, such as DynamoDB or MongoDB.
  • Experience with Message Brokers and their design patterns, including SQS or RabbitMQ.
  • Hands-on experience deploying applications in a cloud environment, particularly AWS.
  • Solid understanding of designing and developing cloud-native solutions, especially within AWS.

Leadership Capabilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to oversee the delivery of complex end-to-end solutions.
  • Experience managing technical programs within a Scrum Agile SDLC framework.
  • Effective communication skills to coordinate efforts and collaborate with various teams, simplifying complex problems.
  • Proven track record of mentoring fellow engineers and enhancing their skills.
  • Adept at navigating complex environments and developing a comprehensive understanding of those systems.
