Position Overview:

Verrus is seeking a qualified Structural Engineer with a robust background in design and construction, particularly focused on waterfront infrastructure. The ideal candidate will possess between 8 to 15 years of relevant experience in structural engineering, with an emphasis on industrial and building structures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Leadership: Direct complex waterfront infrastructure initiatives, including proposal development, project initiation, team assembly, quality assurance, and coordination with subconsultants.
  • Client Engagement: Facilitate and lead meetings with clients, document discussions, and ensure effective communication.
  • Structural Design and Analysis: Conduct structural analysis and design for waterfront constructions utilizing materials such as concrete, steel, and timber.
  • Project Types: Engage in diverse projects including marine terminals, offshore wind facilities, vessel mooring systems, piers, bulkheads, and coastal protection structures.
  • Delivery Management: Supervise design workflows, guarantee timely project deliverables, review submissions, and provide post-construction support.
  • Field Investigations: Perform site assessments, oversee construction activities, and offer field consultation.
  • Mentorship: Guide junior engineers in their professional development.
  • Client Relations: Foster and strengthen client relationships, serve as the primary contact for clients and subconsultants, and prepare proposals.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A Master's degree in Structural Engineering or a related field is preferred; a Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Licensure: Must hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Virginia or be able to obtain it through reciprocity within six months of employment.
  • Experience: 8 to 15 years of experience in engineering design and project management, with essential experience in NAVFAC projects.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with UFC (Unified Facilities Criteria) and experience with construction contract documentation.
  • Credentials: Must possess or be eligible for a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) and a Department of Defense DBIDS card.
  • Travel: Must be willing and able to travel overnight both domestically and internationally.
  • Citizenship and Background Check: Proof of U.S. citizenship and ability to pass a comprehensive background check.
  • Compliance: All new hires must successfully complete a pre-employment background check in accordance with NIST.

Physical Requirements:

This position is primarily office-based; however, site visits will be necessary, which may involve traversing uneven or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
