Position Overview

As a Senior Civil Engineer at Burns & McDonnell, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our Ports and Maritime sector. Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee a variety of heavy civil engineering projects, including port utilities, roadway infrastructure, and stormwater management, while continuously seeking innovative solutions to enhance client satisfaction and personal growth.
  • Manage multifaceted projects, leveraging the expertise of our extensive team of over 12,000 professionals across various disciplines.
  • Utilize exceptional creative, technical, and interpersonal skills to guide teams through complex designs and tight schedules, fostering a culture of excellence and mentorship.
  • Collaborate with seasoned designers and an in-house construction team to develop and implement cutting-edge solutions for ongoing projects.
  • Engage effectively with clients and stakeholders, simplifying intricate concepts and generating enthusiasm for the impactful work we deliver.
  • Provide insights on how design decisions influence project timelines and budgets, ensuring transparent communication with clients.
  • Lead teams with a focus on accountability, adaptability, and meticulous organization, as success is often found in the details.
  • Identify and pursue strategic business development opportunities in alignment with company goals, collaborating with management and marketing teams.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key clients, customers, and contractors to drive business growth.
  • Participate actively in regional trade associations and professional organizations.
  • Serve as the principal civil engineer for diverse waterfront projects, coordinating activities across multiple disciplines.
  • Assist in managing project resources and sub-consultants effectively.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited program, with a minimum of 7 years of civil engineering experience; EPC project experience preferred.
  • Master's degree in civil engineering with at least 6 years of relevant experience; EPC project experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering design principles and proficiency in relevant software tools, including AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to lead design efforts for large projects and delegate tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License is preferred.
