Position Overview:

Moffatt & Nichol is actively seeking a Structural Engineer for our team, focusing on waterfront and marine infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in structural engineering.

This role offers a unique opportunity to advance your career in engineering by engaging in the design of large-scale, intricate waterfront structural projects at one of the fastest-growing container ports in the nation. You will collaborate with a skilled team of structural engineers and designers, enhancing your professional development.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage in the conceptual design and development of waterfront structural projects across various sectors, including piers, docks, container shipping, and energy.
  • Conduct structural analysis, design, and detailing for concrete, steel, and timber structures.
  • Evaluate static and dynamic loads on structures, considering soil-structure interaction and foundation design for waterfront applications.
  • Create finite element models of marine structures using advanced software to simulate and optimize structural performance under diverse loading conditions.
  • Prepare detailed calculations and documentation for completed designs.
  • Coordinate with engineers and drafting technicians on structural detail development.
  • Perform site inspections and assessments of existing structures.
  • Provide technical support during construction phases, including reviewing submittals and ensuring compliance with design specifications.
  • Utilize AutoCAD for design drawing preparation.
  • Apply coastal engineering principles to address challenges such as erosion and sedimentation impacting waterfront structures.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of engineering projects, including design calculations and inspection reports.
  • Collaborate with project teams to identify cost-effective design alternatives and enhance the durability and performance of waterfront structures.
Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering is required, while a Master’s degree is preferred. Candidates should have at least 3 years of experience, with prior exposure to heavy civil, structural, or marine design being essential. A Professional Engineering License is required or the potential to obtain one within a year of hiring.

Proficiency in AutoCAD and structural analysis software is necessary, along with the ability to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC). All candidates must successfully complete a pre-employment background check.

Work Environment:

This position is primarily office-based, with the requirement for occasional travel. The role demands the ability to use standard office equipment and maintain accurate project documentation.
