About the Role

Moffatt & Nichol, a leading global infrastructure advisor, is seeking a highly skilled Marine Structural Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our waterfront structural engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and analyzing complex waterfront structures, including piers, docks, container shipping facilities, and other marine infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in the conceptual development and design of waterfront structural projects, including structural analysis, design, and detailing of concrete, steel, and timber structures.
  • Analyze static and dynamic loading on laterally performing structures, including the impact of soil-structure interaction and designing foundations for waterfront structures.
  • Develop finite element models of marine structures using SAP2000 and Xtract to simulate the behavior of complex waterfront structures under various loading conditions and optimize their design for structural efficiency and performance.
  • Prepare calculations and document design information for completed designs.
  • Coordinate structural detail development with engineers and drafting technicians.
  • Perform site inspections and condition assessments of existing structures.
  • Provide technical support during the construction phase of waterfront projects, including reviewing submittals, shop drawings, responding to requests for information (RFIs), and conducting site visits to ensure compliance with design specifications and standards.
  • Experience in AutoCAD and assist in preparing design drawings.
  • Apply principles of coastal engineering to address erosion, sedimentation, and other coastal processes affecting waterfront structures, and implement measures to mitigate their impacts.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records of waterfront engineering projects, including design calculations, construction drawings, and inspection reports, and correspondence with contractors.
  • Collaborate with project teams to identify cost-effective design alternatives and value engineering solutions that optimize the performance, durability, and constructability of waterfront structures while minimizing lifecycle costs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with Structural emphasis required. Master of Science in Civil Engineering with Structural emphasis preferred.
  • At least 3 years or more of experience in heavy civil, structural, or marine/waterfront design.
  • A Professional Engineering License is required or potential to obtain within 1 year of hiring.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or comparable drafting platform is required.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis software such as SAP2000 or comparable equivalent is required.
  • Possession of or eligibility to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC).
