Position Summary:

As part of the Audubon Deltas team, the Louisiana Coastal Ecology Specialist will report to the Regional Senior Biologist and play a crucial role in providing technical and field support for various conservation initiatives, monitoring efforts, and research projects. This position will involve managing land, stakeholders, and partners, conducting scientific analyses, and supporting fundraising efforts. The specialist will collaborate closely with Audubon Delta’s conservation, science, policy, and communications teams, as well as with external partners including governmental agencies, NGOs, and academic institutions.

Work Environment:

This role is primarily remote, with fieldwork conducted in the coastal regions of Louisiana. Candidates within commuting distance to the Audubon Deltas office may have the option for a hybrid work arrangement.

Compensation:

Annual salary ranges from $58,000 to $65,000.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruit and oversee field technicians for various surveys, including beach-nesting bird and marshbird assessments.
  • Ensure data quality through rigorous QAQC processes and perform detailed analyses.
  • Communicate project outcomes effectively through reports and presentations tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Collaborate with communication staff to craft impactful messages and outreach materials.
  • Lead bird banding initiatives to enhance understanding of priority coastal species.
  • Coordinate volunteer efforts to support field surveys as necessary.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, including other Audubon offices, state and federal agencies, and community leaders.
  • Design and implement research projects to evaluate species outcomes and improve conservation strategies.
  • Maintain and organize field equipment and supplies, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Manage permits and access agreements with partners and landowners.
  • Assist in grant reporting and financial documentation.
  • Engage with stakeholders to achieve conservation objectives.
  • Promote principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging in all aspects of work.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in team management is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
  • Proficient in bird monitoring and banding protocols, with experience in data reporting.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic knowledge of coastal Louisiana's avian and plant species.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with statistical software and GIS applications is preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in volunteer management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to work independently in dynamic environments and adapt to changing conditions.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings and weekends as needed.
  • Physical capability to perform outdoor tasks in various weather conditions.
  • A valid driver's license is required for travel to work sites.
