Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Peer Support Specialist to join our team at the University of North Carolina. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting individuals impacted by substance use, trauma, violence, and incarceration as they navigate the reentry process.

Your primary responsibilities will include conducting screenings, working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team, and providing peer support services to clients engaged in Gender-Responsive Substance Use Disorder Reentry Services. You will also assist with evaluating the services of the program, working closely with the Program Director of Community Engagement and Integrated Treatment Services/Director of Gender-responsive SUD and Reentry Services to ensure that the program is meeting its evaluation milestones.

We are looking for a candidate with a strong understanding of the impact of trauma, stigma, substance use, and incarceration among pregnant, parenting, and single women. You should have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to connect with individuals/clients at the time of reentry. A valid driver's license is also required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct screenings and work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team
  • Provide peer support services to clients engaged in Gender-Responsive Substance Use Disorder Reentry Services
  • Assist with evaluating the services of the program
  • Document services delivered in adherence to program productivity standards

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Human Services discipline with coursework related to the area of assignment
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Knowledgeable of the impact of trauma, stigma, substance use, and incarceration among pregnant, parenting, and single women
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience or knowledge of substance use during pregnancy, substance use and incarceration, and exposure to social work or counseling experience
  • Holds an addiction credential from the NCSAPPB (CADC, CADC-R, LCASA)
  • Experience working within an interdisciplinary team
