About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Zoological Operations Manager to join our team at the Dallas Zoo Management. As a key member of our animal care and husbandry team, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our animal exhibits, managing a team of animal care staff, and ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare and care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Animal Care and Husbandry
    • Develop and implement animal care and husbandry plans to ensure the health and well-being of our animals.
    • Oversee the daily operations of our animal exhibits, including animal feeding, cleaning, and maintenance.
    • Manage a team of animal care staff, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure they have the skills and knowledge needed to provide exceptional animal care.
  • Team Leadership
    • Lead and manage a team of animal care staff, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure they have the skills and knowledge needed to provide exceptional animal care.
    • Develop and implement team-building initiatives to promote a positive and productive work environment.
  • Communication and Collaboration
    • Communicate effectively with colleagues, stakeholders, and external partners to ensure seamless collaboration and coordination.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with external partners, including veterinarians, conservation organizations, and other zoos.
  • Problem-Solving and Decision-Making
    • Identify and address animal care and husbandry issues, developing and implementing solutions to ensure the health and well-being of our animals.
    • Make informed decisions regarding animal care and husbandry, taking into account the latest research, best practices, and industry standards.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • Bachelor's degree in biology, zoology, or a related field.
    • At least 9 years of experience in animal care and husbandry, with at least 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Skills and Knowledge
    • Extensive knowledge of animal husbandry, including animal behavior, nutrition, and health.
    • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, stakeholders, and external partners.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a high level of attention to detail and a commitment to excellence.
