Role Overview:
The Credit Risk Review Manager is tasked with the strategic development, planning, and execution of a quarterly examination model aimed at ensuring the safety and soundness of the Company’s residential mortgage lending operations. This role encompasses leading evaluations of credit quality and correspondent counterparty risk management processes within the residential mortgage business units. The incumbent will also engage in ongoing assessments of credit risk levels and trends within the underlying mortgage portfolios.

Team Structure:
The Credit Risk & Review Group is divided into two collaborative teams: Internal Credit Risk Review and Credit Risk Oversight. Together, these teams form a cohesive second line risk management organization focused on maintaining the financial integrity of the Company by identifying, assessing, and escalating credit risks to senior management and the Board.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of the residential mortgage lending landscape, including retail and correspondent lending, servicing rights, and applicable federal regulations.
  • Design and implement a continuous examination model to assess the effectiveness of credit and counterparty risk management controls.
  • Conduct ongoing monitoring of portfolio and correspondent counterparty risks.
  • Perform independent risk evaluations for new and existing mortgage products and lending initiatives.
  • Document and report quarterly examination findings, highlighting any discrepancies or deficiencies.
  • Monitor credit risk trends within residential lending portfolios to identify potential asset quality issues.
  • Identify emerging risk areas through proactive examination processes.
  • Analyze management information systems (MIS) data to detect adverse performance trends.
  • Communicate sensitive findings and conclusions effectively and collaboratively.
  • Build and maintain internal relationships that foster a culture of trust and cooperation.
  • Provide technical guidance on credit policies and best practices to enhance operational quality.
  • Ensure adherence to enterprise-wide credit policies and Internal Credit Risk Review procedures.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of five years of experience in residential mortgage credit risk, ideally with a background in underwriting and risk management.
  • Formal credit training program completion is preferred but not mandatory.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field is required.
  • Strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of commercial credit principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial statements, tax returns, and cash flow analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex issues clearly.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary.
