About the Position.

The Underwriter plays a vital role within the underwriting division, reporting directly to the Regional Underwriting Manager. This position's primary objective is to enhance profitability by effectively managing a portfolio of business through strategic partnerships with brokers in the Pacific Northwest and seamless collaboration with colleagues across the organization. Responsibilities include planning and budgeting for the portfolio, nurturing agency relationships, and executing underwriting decisions. The role supports a Hybrid work model, allowing for flexibility in either Scottsdale, AZ or San Diego offices, or remote work for those outside these locations.

Key Responsibilities.
  • Business Management: Oversee planning and budgeting for the portfolio, monitor and report performance metrics, and maintain a comprehensive understanding of market dynamics and competitive factors.
  • Broker Partnership Development: Establish, maintain, and manage relationships with agents; devise strategies and objectives for agents while tracking their progress; enhance PURE's positioning within agencies by:
    • Providing exceptional, timely, and accurate service to agents
    • Building trusted and enduring relationships with agent partners
    • Collaborating with agents to develop optimal solutions for their clients
    • Sharing insights and best practices with agents
    • Exercising empathy in underwriting at all times
  • Underwriting Execution: Responsible for executing new and renewal underwriting, which includes selecting risks that align with PURE's strategic objectives and underwriting guidelines, adhering to authority and documentation protocols, and following up on accounts to secure new business.
Qualifications.
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in high net worth underwriting or conducting prospect assessments to determine suitable coverage needs
  • Proven technical expertise and product-specific knowledge
  • Strong analytical capabilities alongside excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in sales and marketing
The base salary for this position ranges from $60K to $75K, depending on a full-time work schedule. Compensation will vary based on job-related skills and experience, geographic location, alignment with market data, and equity among team members with similar experience.
