Dialysis Technician Job Description

At Stamford Health, we are seeking a skilled Dialysis Technician to join our Dialysis Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care under the supervision of a dialysis nurse. Key responsibilities include monitoring equipment and patient status during dialysis treatments, documenting and communicating patient information, and maintaining department equipment and supplies.

Responsibilities:
  • Monitor all equipment and patient status during dialysis treatments under the supervision of a dialysis nurse.
  • Document and communicate patient information to the nurse and report any significant changes in patient condition.
  • Assist in room preparation setup prior to dialysis treatment when required.
  • Check and maintain department equipment and supplies.
  • Safely set up and monitor dialysis machines and systems.
  • Maintain inventory and records related to dialysis department quality assurance monitoring.
  • Demonstrate clinical and technical skills according to established standards of practice.
  • Collect patient data and monitor vital signs.
  • Obtain blood samples and culture specimens as ordered.
  • Disinfect dialysis supplies and sanitize equipment.
  • Respond to dialysis-related emergencies.
  • Communicate patient concerns to the registered nurse and work with them to ensure patient needs are met.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure smooth operation of the department.

Qualifications:
Experience: Two years of dialysis experience preferred.
Special Skills:
  • Unit-specific orientation required.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Competency to treat in both acute care and IRF settings.
  • Excellent written, oral, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organization skills.
  • Skills in quality improvement methods related to data management and analysis.
  • Competency with computer software such as MS Office or equivalent.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Certification or qualified to be certified as a Dialysis Technician. PCA/CNA experience preferred but not required.
Licenses/Certifications: One of the following: Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC), Certified Clinical Dialysis Technician (CCHT), or Certified Hemodialysis Technician offered by the Nephrology Examiners Nursing and Technology (BONENT) within 6 months of being hired as a dialysis technician.
