Position Overview

As the Policy Outreach Lead, you will cultivate connections with external partners, focusing primarily on state and local authorities across North America. Your role will involve crafting persuasive policy documents and conducting ongoing outreach efforts to advance initiatives in AI policy and safety. You will also work alongside Policy colleagues on various projects, including evaluating policy proposals and preparing submissions for public commentary, with ample opportunities for professional growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engaging a wide array of policy and research stakeholders to deepen their understanding of AI safety and policy prospects.
  • Organizing and participating in policy events, such as panels and workshops, to discuss AI safety issues.
  • Assisting senior team members in external interactions by preparing meeting summaries and following up on action items.
  • Creating new initiatives and opportunities for Climate Policy Radar to consistently connect with policymakers, think tanks, and non-profit organizations.
  • Collaborating with both policy and technical teams to translate research findings into actionable policy recommendations and educational resources.
  • Drafting and promoting public submissions, responses to requests for information, and policy briefs aimed at fostering positive advancements in AI policy.
  • Partnering with academic institutions and non-profits to produce discussion papers and policy briefs that support responsible AI research and development.
  • Monitoring significant developments in policy, legislation, and regulation within assigned areas, with a focus on state and local initiatives.

  • Is skilled at crafting compelling narratives and real-world examples to bolster advocacy efforts.
  • Enjoys analyzing the policy implications of technological advancements and aligning them with policymakers' interests.
  • Displays a strong curiosity for cutting-edge technological research and a willingness to collaborate closely with technical teams.
  • Has substantial experience in engaging with legislators or regulatory bodies.
  • Can quickly grasp complex technical topics and understand policy dynamics.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possesses expertise in developing or analyzing state and local legislation through previous legal or legislative roles.
  • Has a solid background in the technology sector.
  • Brings over five years of public policy experience in technology, government, or a combination of both.
