Position Overview: The School of Humanities and Sciences is in search of a dedicated Research Administrator 2 to join our team. This role is pivotal in facilitating the pre- and post-award processes, ensuring our faculty and students can effectively pursue sponsored research opportunities.

About the Department: The Dean's Office Research Administration team plays a crucial role in supporting the academic mission of the school, which includes 24 departments and 25 interdisciplinary programs. We are committed to fostering an environment of innovation and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist principal investigators in preparing the administrative components of research proposals, ensuring compliance with both sponsored and non-sponsored research guidelines.
  • Develop and finalize project budgets, providing detailed budget justifications.
  • Act as a liaison between principal investigators, the Office of Sponsored Research, and other departments, addressing inquiries from sponsors.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Sponsored Research to ensure proper setup of awards and adherence to cost-sharing requirements.
  • Review expenditures and advise on post-award spending, ensuring compliance with fund management policies.
  • Generate and communicate reports that support project status and facilitate effective decision-making.
  • Participate in the contract closeout process, compiling necessary documentation for audits.
  • Provide guidance on university and government policies relevant to research projects.
  • Contribute to process improvements and mentor junior staff as needed.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree combined with three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Familiarity with governmental regulations and the ability to interpret and communicate policies effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Excel and web-based tools.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in pre- and post-award research administration.
  • Knowledge of Stanford's administrative and financial systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrating tact and diplomacy.
