Position Overview: The Department of Mathematics within the School of Humanities and Sciences is on the lookout for a Financial Research Specialist to oversee all aspects of pre- and post-award activities within the department. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with institutional, sponsor, and governmental regulations while working independently with minimal supervision from the Finance Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with principal investigators to prepare the administrative components of research proposals, ensuring adherence to guidelines.
  • Manage the submission process, both electronically and in paper format, while reviewing documents for completeness and compliance.
  • Develop and finalize project budgets, budget justifications, and other necessary documentation.
  • Act as a liaison between principal investigators, the Office of Sponsored Research, and other departments, addressing sponsor inquiries as needed.
  • Work with the Office of Sponsored Research to meet sponsor deadlines and ensure proper setup of awards.
  • Review and approve expenditures periodically, advising on post-award spending and compliance with funding requirements.
  • Create and communicate reports that support project status and facilitate effective forecasting.
  • Participate in the contract closeout process, compiling necessary information for audits.
  • Serve as a resource for university policies and procedures related to research administration.
  • Coordinate funding for graduate student support and participate in process improvements.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree along with three years of relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of governmental regulations and the ability to interpret and communicate policies effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with strong analytical capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with web-based tools.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
