Genomic Research Specialist

The Genetics Department is on the lookout for a dedicated research specialist in genomics to contribute to innovative projects aimed at elucidating the regulatory frameworks of the human genome, particularly in relation to genetic factors influencing cardiovascular conditions.

Laboratory Overview:
  • Investigate DNA regulatory components within the human genome that harbor numerous genetic risk factors for various diseases.
  • Aim to uncover therapeutic strategies by delineating the intricate regulatory connections between regulatory elements and genes across different cell types.
  • Utilize cutting-edge experimental and computational genomics methodologies, alongside biochemistry and human genetics, to gain insights into the mechanisms underlying heart diseases.

The ideal candidate may be at any stage of their career and will engage in both experimental and computational initiatives to propel genomic advancements and investigate genetic disease variants.

Key Projects:
  • Design CRISPR-based methodologies to investigate the functions of noncoding variants and enhancers.
  • Map enhancer-promoter interactions in developing cardiac cells through single-cell CRISPR and epigenomic techniques.
  • Explore enhancer-promoter biochemical specificity by constructing various enhancer-promoter combinations.
  • Develop computational frameworks to analyze the regulation of genetic heart diseases by noncoding variants.

Responsibilities include:
  • Implement functional genomics technologies in human cellular and disease models.
  • Propose novel technologies and methodologies.
  • Conduct essential experiments to support group objectives.
  • Analyze and communicate research findings effectively.
  • Maintain comprehensive records and contribute to the development of protocols and publications.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree in biology or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a research laboratory setting.
  • Expertise in molecular biology techniques and cell culture practices.
Education & Experience (Required):

Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Required):
  • Understanding of fundamental scientific principles.
  • Capability to apply scientific knowledge to address complex problems.
  • Strong record-keeping abilities.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and a quick learning aptitude.

None required.

  • Engagement in various physical activities including standing, walking, lifting, and computer operations.
  • Occasional handling of hazardous materials and/or infectious agents.
