Position Title: Academic Resource Center Manager

Supervisor: Assistant Dean for Academic Success

Work Schedule: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday

Position Purpose:

The Academic Resource Center Manager oversees the Scots Learning Commons, fostering an inviting and effective academic atmosphere for all students. This role encompasses dual responsibilities: managing a public service desk and overseeing the facility's operations. The manager is responsible for recruiting, training, scheduling, and supervising a small team of part-time staff and student workers to address inquiries regarding services available in the Learning Commons and to connect students with relevant support resources. Additionally, the manager ensures safety and emergency response protocols are in place and addresses maintenance concerns. The ideal candidate will exhibit creativity and teamwork, leading the design and implementation of the Learning Commons as a pivotal initiative to enhance student learning and support.

Essential Qualifications:

Educational Background:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Management, Hospitality, or Education is preferred.
Experience:
  • Prior experience in managing a customer service or information desk is essential.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Comprehension of a liberal arts education environment.
  • Ability to engage with a diverse population, encompassing various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
Physical Requirements:
  • Capability to navigate campus/public buildings and grounds.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment:
  • Position is based at a public service/information desk with limited expectations for uninterrupted or private work.
  • Noise levels in the work environment are typically moderate.
Key Responsibilities:

To excel in this role, the individual must competently fulfill each essential duty. Regular and predictable attendance is crucial. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
  • Establishes operational hours and manages the opening and closing of the Learning Commons.
  • Coordinates security and maintenance operations for the Learning Commons.
  • Oversees staffing for the Learning Commons, including hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising part-time assistants and student workers.
  • Manages an information desk, addressing inquiries about services and connecting students to appropriate campus resources.
  • Handles space reservations within the Learning Commons.
  • Monitors the utilization of Learning Commons facilities and resources.
  • Evaluates student satisfaction with the Learning Commons offerings to ensure ongoing enhancement.
Other duties may be assigned as necessary to support the College's objectives and promote a positive, respectful learning environment for all staff, faculty, and students.
